How to Prepare for Your 2026 Personal Branding Session
A personal branding session is more than a photoshoot — it is an investment in how the world sees you. Whether you are a realtor, an entrepreneur, or a creative professional, the images from your session will live on your website, your LinkedIn profile, your business cards, and your social media for months or even years. The right preparation ensures that every frame tells the story you want to tell.
Start with intention. Before you even think about wardrobe, take a moment to define your brand. What three words do you want people to associate with you? Confident, approachable, authoritative, warm, innovative? Write them down. These words become the compass for every decision that follows — from the colors you wear to the expressions you practice in the mirror.
Wardrobe is where most clients feel the most pressure, and rightfully so. The camera reads color and texture differently than the human eye. Solid, rich tones — deep navy, charcoal, emerald, burgundy, cream — photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your face. Avoid busy patterns, logos, and anything that distracts from your expression. Bring two to three outfit options so we have flexibility on set. Layering pieces like a structured blazer or a fine knit cardigan add depth and give us variety within a single look.
Fit matters more than brand. A garment that fits you perfectly will always photograph better than a designer piece that is too loose or too tight. If you are investing in new clothing for the session, have it tailored. Pay special attention to shoulders, sleeve length, and how the garment sits when you are seated — many portraits are taken from the waist up.
Grooming should be intentional but not overdone. For hair and makeup, the goal is a polished version of yourself, not a transformation. If you book a professional makeup artist, share your brand words and reference images ahead of time. For skincare, start a consistent routine a few weeks before the shoot — hydration and rest show up on camera more than any product. Trim facial hair, moisturize, and avoid experimenting with new treatments in the 48 hours before your session.
Mindset is the secret ingredient. The clients who walk away with the most magnetic portraits are the ones who arrive relaxed and present. Get a full night of sleep, eat a good meal beforehand, and arrive fifteen minutes early so you can settle in. During the session, I will guide you through every pose and expression — you do not need to know what to do with your hands. Trust the process, breathe, and allow yourself to have fun.
Finally, think about where these images will live. Are you refreshing your LinkedIn headshot? Building a new website? Creating a social media launch campaign? Share your goals with me during our pre-shoot consultation so I can tailor the lighting, backdrops, and shot list to deliver exactly what you need — and nothing you don't.
Your personal brand deserves to be seen at its best. With a little preparation and the right guidance, your 2026 branding session will produce images that make you look as good as your brand.
